Designed to give you the space you need to celebrate, breathe, relax, and reconnect while surrounded by inspiring nature.
One-night stays include private villa accommodation, 3-course dinner on arrival, 1-hour private forest bathing, use of the magnesium pool and Finnish sauna, and continental breakfast buffet before departure.
For 2 or more nights, you will also receive complimentary yoga classes, daily 1-hour private forest bathing, and a guided nature walk in your activity schedule.

On most weekends, our Resident Yoga teacher hosts a complimentary Sleep and Sound bath evening session with practical applications and best practices to optimise your sleep and your day.

While there is wifi available at the main Lodge, the private villas provide a digital detox haven, with no wifi or TV. There is still cell/data reception, so your digital exposure is completely up to you.
If possible, we highly recommend taking the opportunity to truly unplug and cultivate more presence during your stay.
If you allow it, Maruia can provide a deep reset of the system — mind, body and soul. Fall asleep to the sound of the river and awake to a symphony of birdsong.

Booking information: Prices are in NZD and include 15% New Zealand Goods & Services Tax (GST); A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to secure your reservation, with the balance payable 30 days prior to your booking date; The booking is transferable but not refundable; Cancellations and associated fees are subject to our cancellation policies viewable in our Terms and Conditions.
Health & Safety: Unless booked for exclusive-use, we are unable to accommodate children under 14 years old; Smoking is not permitted on the property; Animals are not permitted on the property; We reserve the right to limit the number of people in a villa; Any damage to the room or property may be charged to the credit card provided, or billed to the guest.
Hygiene: The Wellness Center, the Yoga Chalet and all common indoor areas are equipped with Hepa-Filters and air purifiers. We regularly disinfect all surfaces within the facilities; Class numbers are limited to only 10 students; If you are feeling unwell, please stay in your villa and if you have symptoms of cold or flu please consider taking a covid test.

A truly relaxing and rejuvenating experience

We booked a 2 night stay at Maruia River Retreat through Luxury Escapes during our road trip around the South Island, and it was honestly the best decision we made during our holiday! The rooms are spacious and well appointed, the meals were amazing, and the service from the dedicated and caring staff was next level.
We did a fantastic (beginners) Yoga class with Christina, and really enjoyed the forest bathing in the hot tub and the infra-red sauna. The guided forest walk with Lasse was also wonderful as he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about conserving the environment.

Arriving at Maruia certainly came with many hopes of restorative downtime and every single one of them was met with utmost care, professionalism and understanding of what we needed during our stay
The property, to begin with, is nestled within a truly special bio-diversity zone. The guided walks are therefore spectacular. You breathe freshness and life. Lasse has worked very closely with local biologists who have been able to trace the history behind many of the single trees and plants. You can jump into the chilly river, dunk into the jacuzzi under the stars, have a sauna session in the forest… you name it. True healing all around.

The rooms are luxurious and private, while still being cozy. The service is personalized and attentive. The food nourishing and wholesome. You're in a valley as old as the dinosaurs but the staff works hard to keep the suites, the hot tubs, the saunas, the shared spaces modern and bright. It's a collapsing of worlds, the ancient and the new. And while I expected luxury, I didn't know to expect heart, too. Maruia is run by a tight-knit group of staff that operate like a family. They treat the land with conscientiousness, investing in its preservation for the future. And they treat their guests the same, with a tender hand eager to prepare them for the bright future ahead. I can't recommend a stay here enough. It is a blend of luxury, recovery, and care that is hard to find anywhere.

From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. The service was warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, making us feel welcome throughout our stay. The facilities are perfect for unwinding, relaxing, and reconnecting with nature. As we enjoy staying active, the magnesium pool was a real highlight, especially during the two rainy days we experienced.
The food was absolutely spectacular. Every meal was healthy, beautifully prepared, and full of variety. The team clearly puts a lot of thought into accommodating different dietary needs without ever compromising on flavour. The yoga and sleep sessions were unique and deeply restorative. What truly stood out was the personalised, one-on-one care and attention we received, which made the experience feel incredibly special.
