About Cristina Holopainen

Cristina Holopainen is the resident yoga teacher at Maruia River Retreat, known for delivering intelligent, deeply restorative classes grounded in strong anatomical understanding and real-world experience. With decades of practice and thousands of teaching hours behind her, she works confidently with complete beginners through to advanced students, as well as older adults seeking safe, strength-building movement.

A most recent review described practising with Cristina as “one of the most profound yoga practices I have ever had,” praising her precise guidance, ability to tailor each pose to individual needs, and the sense of safety and encouragement she creates. The session concluded with a resonant sound bath that reflected the stillness of the surrounding forest and river.

Cristina’s classes are not generic flow sessions. They are thoughtful, anatomically sound, and intelligently sequenced and personalised experiences designed to build strength, mobility, and self-trust—while allowing space for deep rest. At the Self-Love Women’s Retreat, her teaching becomes a powerful anchor: personalised, grounding, empowering, and light yet transformative.

You can find out more about Cristina through her affiliation as a faculty member of the School of Yoga.
